Google Home speakers just got a lot more useful for listening to music.
The company has rolled out an update to the Google Home app that lets you connect your Assistant-enabled speaker to any bluetooth speaker.
SEE ALSO: Facebook pauses smart speaker unveiling in wake of Cambridge Analytica scandalTo set it up, all you have to do is pair a bluetooth speaker to your Google Home in the Google Home app and music and podcasts will automatically play on the connected speaker rather than the speaker onboard the Google Home.
Or, you can take things a step further and connect multiple speakers so Google Assistant commands will play music in multiple rooms at once. (Of note: if you want to talk to Google Assistant you'll still need to use the Google Home.)
It may sound like a small update, but it's one that makes Google Home much better for music. It also makes the $49 Google Home Mini much more attractive as it helps address one of the few drawbacks of the speaker: its lackluster audio. Though the tiny speaker is powerful enough to fill a decent-sized room, its sound isn't nearly as rich as larger speakers. or even the full-sized Google Home.
But by adding support for bluetooth speakers, you can now connect any of your existing speakers without sacrificing the convenience of Google Assistant.
